Residency & Education

Education is a top priority for the Division of Geriatric Medicine at UBC. Our clinical faculty is deeply invested in creating a dynamic learning environment for trainees of all levels. Exposure to the complexities and challenges of caring for older adults begins in the undergraduate medical years and learning continues throughout postgraduate education, whether as an internal medicine resident, a family medicine resident pursuing Care of the Elderly training or as a geriatric medicine subspecialty resident. Trainees enjoy broad exposure to geriatric medicine in a multitude of diverse settings including the clinical teaching unit, acute inpatient consultation, inpatient and outpatient multidisciplinary team services, rehabilitation programs, as well as community-based geriatrics including residential care. Clinical faculty offer expertise in specialized ambulatory clinics, including Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders clinics, Falls Prevention clinics, Osteoporosis clinics and Geriatric Rapid Access clinics. Geriatric subspecialty residents also spend time doing rotations in Geriatric Psychiatry, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation as well as Movement Disorders at UBC.
